Appointment of Professor Shuk Han Cheng as Executive Director of HKIAS
The Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) is pleased to inform you that Professor Shuk Han Cheng has been appointed as our Executive Director, effective from December 1, 2023.
Professor Shuk Han Cheng brings a wealth of experience to her new role, currently serving as the Chair Professor of Molecular Medicine and Associate Vice President (Research) at the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). Her academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from the University of Hong Kong, with a specialization in Zoology, and a doctoral degree from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now part of the Imperial College, University of London). During her Ph.D., supervised by Professor Denny Mitchison in the Department of Bacteriology at Hammersmith Hospital, she conducted research on the cellular immune response of BCG vaccination. Furthermore, she pursued postdoctoral training at the Ontario Cancer Institute in Toronto, working under the guidance of Professor Tak Mak on molecular immune response of T cells. Before joining CityU in 1997, she worked in the Departments of Paediatrics, and Orthopaedics and Traumatology, at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
