HKIAS General Meeting 2020

  21 HKIAS Senior Fellows and members from around the world joined the virtual meeting. 4 Senior Fellows attended the HKIAS General Meeting at CityU.  

The Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) General Meeting was held at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 18 November 2020. The meeting was hosted both face-to-face and online through Zoom.

The agenda featured an address by Professor Serge Haroche, Chairman and Senior Fellow of HKIAS, a speech from Professor Way Kuo, Senior Fellow of HKIAS and CityU President, a presentation by Professor Jacob Huang, Executive Director of HKIAS and Chair Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at CityU, along with the discussion among various Senior Fellows and International Advisory Board Members of HKIAS.

Professor Huang gave members a thorough overview of the latest events and development of the HKIAS. He highlighted the research achievements of HKIAS Senior Fellows and introduced three newly joined female Senior Fellows by welcoming Professor Alison Noble, Professor Evelyn Hu, and Professor Jihong Yu. In addition, Professor Huang was pleased to report that HKIAS has received generous donations from the late Dr. Chung Sze-yuen, GBM, JP (1917 – 2018), and Kwang Hua Educational Foundation in 2020.

Members conducted a lively discussion on the most pressing issue and scientific area during the meeting, including the response and impact of the COVID-19 worldwide, the potential research collaboration opportunities between CityU, HKIAS, and Herbert Gleiter International Laboratory Shenyang, China, and the strategic direction of HKIAS for the year ahead.
