APS President Professor Robert Rosner visits HKIAS

Professor Robert Rosner, an eminent theoretical physicist and President of the American Physical Society (APS), visited Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong on October 29.

Professor Xun-Li Wang, Executive Director of HKIAS, extended a warm welcome to Professor Rosner’s visit and held a fruitful discussion with him regarding future collaboration and opportunities to foster stronger cooperation with the physics communities in Hong Kong.

Professor Rosner became president of APS in 2023. He is the William E. Wrather Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, and the former director of Argonne National Laboratory from 2005 to 2009. He is a theoretical physicist and his research work has been related to fluid dynamics and plasma physics problems, as well as in applied mathematics and computational physics.

The American Physical Society (APS) is a nonprofit membership organization working to advance the knowledge of physics. It has more than 50,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories, and industry in the United States and throughout the world.
