Importance Measures in Reliability and Risk: Concept and Theory
Professor Sir John Pendry

Abstract

Importance measures are used to evaluate the relative importance of various objects in a system. Given the increasing trend of using complex and complicated systems, many types of importance measures have been investigated. The absolute values of importance measures may not be as important as their relative rankings. In this presentation, invariant properties are particularly introduced.

In this talk, we are to discuss reliability optimization, using the concept of importance measures, among others. We should strike a balance using importance measures to seek for the optimal solution in assessing the energy needs and health management for the sake of economic growth, safety and sustainability.
