To illustrate the excellence in Mathematics research, Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) will organize HKIAS International Conference on Mathematics Analysis and its Applications from 21-22 November 2019 at CityU, to present a series of lectures and disseminate the most recent achievements in their research areas among the mathematical community.

Marks, Senior Fellow of HKIAS and Professor at Northwestern University, USA, was elected a member of the European Academy of Sciences (was named a Clarivate Analytics Citation Laureate) and was conferred Honorary Professor by Nanjing Technical University, China, in recognition of his contributions to science and technology, especially the pioneering work in the areas of catalysis, organo-f-element chemistry, electronic and photonic materials, and coordination chemistry.

A research team comprising experts from City University of Hong Kong, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and Zhejiang University discovered for the first time the deformation transitions of multiscale nanotwins (NTs) in austenitic stainless steel, which will help develop materials with higher strength and ductility. HKIAS Senior Fellow Professor Jian Lu and his team has discovered the marginal scale of nanotwin deformation transition mechanisms of austenitic stainless steel combining in situ tensile tests with theoretical modeling and atomistic simulations.
