Professor Qi-Kun Xue, HKIAS Senior Fellow, has been appointed as the President of the Southern University of Science and Technology, China, effective from November 2020.
Professor Xue is a leading scientist in the field of condensed matter physics. His research interests include scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, molecular beam epitaxy, low-dimensional and interface-related superconductivity, topological insulators, and quantum size effects in various low-dimensional structures.
Professor Xue is currently the Director of the Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences and a fellow of The Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was the Vice-President for Research at Tsinghua University, China.
