香港城市大學（城大）校長郭位教授指出，新型冠狀病毒大流行反映多個系統內的多重問題，須仔細分析以避免在找出解決方案時出現延誤，及減少作出混亂的應對。

At a time when humanity is facing unprecedented challenges, the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) provides a unique platform for leading academics from various disciplines to address some of society's most pressing issues.

Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) plans events that encourage conversations about how science relates to broader social issues. Professor Way Kuo, the President and University Distinguished Professor of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), presented a lecture titled “Data-Driven Global Pandemic Management” at the inaugural online series for the HKIAS Distinguished Lecture at CityU on 30 September 2020. Over 300 online participants from both local and overseas, including renowned scholars and researchers, attended the virtual lecture through the video conferencing platform Zoom.

香港高等研究院(高等研究院)不时举办重点研究讲座与活动，鼓励学者进行对话以回应现今全球面对的重要难题。香港城市大学（城大）校长暨大学杰出教授郭位教授于2020年9月30日为城大高等研究院主持本学年的首场网上讲座，讲题是「数据驱动全球疫情管理」，吸引逾三百名本地及来自世界各地的着名学者及研究人员收看网上直播。

郭校長是電子系統與核能可靠度設計研究方面的權威，他提出全球應參考昔日控制核電廠事故的「C³ I系統」— 即溝通（Communication）、指令（Command）、控制（Control）和情報（Intelligence），以應對新冠疫情。監於新冠病毒已超越公共醫療健康問題，他建議各界應集合工程師、傳染病、生物資訊、行為科學和公共衞生學的專家建立有系統及可靠的應對機制，為疫情做好風險管理，減少全球在健康及經濟方面的損失。

Professor Qi-Kun Xue, HKIAS Senior Fellow, was honored with the 2020 Fudan-Zhongzhi Science Award. The prize recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Professor Xue on the experimental discovery of quantum anomalous Hall effect.

Elastoplastic Modeling, by Professor Jean Salençon, Senior Fellow of HKIAS, was published by ISTE in June 2020. This book is the fourth publication that Professor Salençon wrote after joining the HKIAS.

今年6月，ISTE出版社發行了香港高等研究院（高等研究院）资深院士 Jean Salençon教授 的着作《Elastoplastic Modeling》。这是Salençon教授加入高等研究院后撰写的第四本科研书藉。
