On 31 March 2026, the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) had the distinct privilege of hosting Professor Wei Yang, a world-renowned scholar from Zhejiang University and a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. During his visit, Professor Yang delivered a captivating HKIAS Distinguished Lecture titled “Deep Dynamics & Control on the Locomotion of Legged Robots,” drawing an exceptional attendance rate from faculty, students, and researchers.

Professor Ke Lu, a distinguished Senior Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and President of the Liaoning Academy of Materials, visited CityUHK on 13 April for a day of focused academic exchanges. The Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) is pleased to announce Professor Pierre-Louis Lions has newly taken up his new role as the Chairman of HKIAS. A world-renowned mathematician and Fields Medalist, Professor Lions' exceptional leadership and influence are evident in his accolades, including the 2024 Distinguished Fellow Award from the International Engineering and Technology Institute, and being ranked No.1 in General Mathematics and Applied Mathematics on the list of Stanford University’s 2025 Top 2% Scientists.

Professor Marc Fontecave, an HKIAS Senior Fellow and a Professor at Collège de France, visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) from 22 to 27 March 2026. As a visionary leader whose influence continues to shape the global scientific landscape, his visit strengthened international collaboration in energy research and catalysis, while inspiring faculty, students, and the wider Hong Kong scientific community.

Professor Jean Salençon, an HKIAS Senior Fellow and a leading figure in the field of Continuum Mechanics, visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) from 20 February to 16 March 2026. His visit featured a series of enlightening sessions and lectures aimed at promoting academic exchange and collaboration.

Professor Tobin Marks, Senior Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and a world-renowned scientist in materials science and catalysis, recently visited the CityUHK and CityUHK (Dongguan) from 9 to 19 January 2026. His visit fostered deep academic exchange, featuring high-level discussions with faculty, engagement with young scholars, and a distinguished lecture focused on the intersection of academic research and venture creation.

Professor Dame Madeleine Atkins, Senior Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and President Emeritus of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, is a visionary leader whose influence continues to shape the global scientific and academic landscape. Her visit to CityUHK from 7 to 13 December 2025 stands as a testament to her enduring commitment to advancing higher education and research, inspiring a renewed sense of purpose and ambition across the university community.

Professor Sir John Pendry, an HKIAS Senior Fellow and a renowned award-winning pioneer on metamaterials and electromagnetic materials, visited City University of Hong Kong from 9 to 14 November 2025. His visit featured high-level academic exchanges and the delivery of a prestigious HKIAS Distinguished Lecture, fostering deep discussions on the frontiers of electromagnetism and metamaterials.

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Collège de France and the French Academy of Sciences on 17 October to strengthen academic partnerships and foster collaborative research and exchanges. This tripartite agreement underscores CityUHK’s commitment to promoting international education and research collaboration, reinforcing its recognition as the Most International University in the World.

The HKIAS International Conference on Mathematical Analysis and its Applications convened exceptional mathematical scholars from around the globe at City University of Hong Kong from 4 to 7 November 2025.
