Professor David Srolovitz, Senior Fellow of Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study, was appointed as Head of Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). Professor Srolovitz is currently Chair Professor of Materials Science in MSE.

On 15 January 2020, Professor Fu-Rong Chen, Chair Professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), delivered a presentation titled “Disclose the secret of 3D atomic dynamics with high space / time resolution TEM” for Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study at CityU.

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has played a major role in developing international scientific cooperation at the highest level with mathematicians worldwide. To illustrate the excellence in Mathematics research, Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) will organize HKIAS International Conference on Mathematics Analysis and its Applications from 21-22 November 2019 at CityU, to present a series of lectures and disseminate the most recent achievements in their research areas among the mathematical community.

On 29 August 2019, Professor Yong Yang, a Professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), delivered a presentation titled “Understanding and Design of Atomic-scale Distorted Lattice in High Entropy Alloys with Unusual Mechanical Properties” for Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study at CityU.

Professor Tei-Wei Kuo, Visiting Fellow of HKIAS, was appointed as Dean of the College of Engineering at CityU. Professor Kuo will also hold the Lee Shau Kee Chair Professor of Information Engineering and serve as an Advisor to President (Information Technology), with effect from 1 August 2019.

Professor Tobin J. Marks, Senior Fellow of HKIAS and Professor at Northwestern University, USA, was elected a member of the European Academy of Sciences (was named a Clarivate Analytics Citation Laureate) and was conferred Honorary Professor by Nanjing Technical University, China, in recognition of his contributions to science and technology, especially the pioneering work in the areas of catalysis, organo-f-element chemistry, electronic and photonic materials, and coordination chemistry.

Professor Stephen Smale, a renowned mathematician, delivered a distinguished lecture titled “The Heart, Beating in Unison, and the Mathematics of Synchronization” for the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong on 4 July 2019.

On 19 June 2019, Professor T.G. Nieh, a world leader in superplasticity and superplastic forming, Visiting Fellow at Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS), delivered a presentation titled “Some Pondering Questions in Studying High Entropy Alloys” at City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

International experts and scholars explored One Health in relation to university–industry collaboration in medical technology and beyond at the 12th QS WorldClass conference hosted by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and QS Asia, a prestigious international institute.

Professor Pierre-Louis Lions, Senior Fellow of HKIAS and Professor at the prestigious ColIège de France in Paris, will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Chicago. The award ceremony will be held on 15 June 2019.
