Professor Park Nam-gyu from the School of Chemical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea delivered the latest installment of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) Distinguished Lecture Series at City University Hong Kong on 11 June. At the lecture, titled “Lead Halide Perovskite: Photovoltaics and Beyond”, Professor Park said a universal method and interfacial nano-engineering had been developed to eliminate hysteresis, which is the lag in response exhibited in a body when reacting to forces affecting it.

The 12th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award was awarded on 30 May to IAS Senior Fellow Professor Lu Jian, a materials scientist focusing on structural metallic materials at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). The Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology (EST) Prizes, composed of "Guanghua EST Achievement Award" and "Guanghua EST Award", are regarded as “the most prestigious award for engineering and technology achievement in China”. “I am very honoured to receive this top award in the engineering and technology sector in China,” said Professor Lu, who is also Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Dean of Graduate Studies at CityU.

More than 500 people were taken on a journey into the world of Kunqu by Professor Pai Hsien-yung, a renowned writer and Kunqu expert, in a talk at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 9 March.

Renowned writer Pai Hsien-yung gives a lecture titled "Love and Beauty of Kunqu Opera" at City University of Hong Kong in south China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, March 9, 2018. Pai is most famous for a number of fiction works including "Taipei People" and "Crystal Boys". A great fan of the Chinese Kunqu Opera, he has also committed himself to preserving and promoting this traditional art form worldwide.

Two renowned scientists discussed L-function and materials informatics, respectively, at talks for the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) Distinguished Lecture Series at City University of Hong Kong recently. They were Professor Zhang Shouwu from the Department of Mathematics at Princeton University and Professor Zhang Tongyi, Founding Dean of the Materials Genome Institute at Shanghai University.

Professor Tobin J. Marks will receive the Harvey Prize for his ground-breaking research that has both fundamental and practical significance, in the areas of catalysis, organo-f-element chemistry, electronic and photonic materials, and coordination chemistry, all of which have strongly impacted contemporary chemical science.

Sir Colin Blakemore, professor of neuroscience and philosophy at the School of Advanced Study (SAS), University of London, has been awarded the President’s Research Medal, the College of Optometrists’ most prestigious honour. It was presented at the Wellcome Collection on 25 January when Professor Blakemore delivered the College’s Research Excellence Lecture, ‘A visual experience’, to a packed audience that included leading members of the optometric research community.
