To highlight the remarkable technical and conceptual progress across the whole of modern neuroscience and encourage the collaboration of scholars at the forefront of neuroscience research, the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) will organize the HKIAS Symposium on Advances in Neuroscience on 25 – 26 March 2019 at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU). The symposium is initiated by Professor Tomas Hökfelt, Professor at the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and Professor Sir Colin Blakemore, Emeritus Professor of Neuroscience at University of Oxford, UK, both of whom are Senior Fellows of HKIAS; together with Professor Jufang He, Chair Professor of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at CityU.

According to metrics compiled by Stanford University, over 140 full-time faculty members at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) are listed among the top 2% of the world's most highly cited scientists, including eight Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) members. Professor Sir Colin Blakemore, Professor Philippe G. Ciarlet, Professor Way Kuo, Professor Chain-Tsuan Liu, Professor Jian Lu, Professor David J. Srolovitz, Senior Fellows of HKIAS*; Professor Tei-Wei Kuo, Former Visiting Fellow of HKIAS; and Professor Jacob C. Huang, Executive Director of HKIAS are among those eminent scholars.

Investigating how science can better understand diseases like cancer is essential for our research endeavors at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU). Professor Michael Yang Mengsu, Vice-President (Research & Technology) and Yeung Kin-man Chair Professor of Biomedical Sciences of CityU presented an inaugural online talk titled "Single Cell Analysis of Tumor Heterogeneity During Cancer Metastasis" for the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) Distinguished Lecture at CityU on 18 February 2022.

Two renowned scientists discussed L-function and materials informatics, respectively, at talks for the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) Distinguished Lecture Series at City University of Hong Kong recently. They were Professor Zhang Shouwu from the Department of Mathematics at Princeton University and Professor Zhang Tongyi, Founding Dean of the Materials Genome Institute at Shanghai University.

The French government has bestowed the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur on Professor Jian Lu, Vice-President (Research and Technology) (VPRT) and Dean of Graduate Studies at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) since November 2013.
The Légion d’Honneur is the highest national order led by the President of France who services as grand master of the order.
