Professor Wei Bao, Chair Professor of Department of Physics at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), delivered a lecture titled “Lattice, Charge, Spin and Orbital Aspects of the Iron Chalcogenide Superconductors” at the last online talk of the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) Lecture Series on Physics at CityU on 12 May 2021.

On 14 May 2021, Professor Lain-Jong Li, Chair Professor in Nanomaterials for Future Electronics of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Hong Kong, delivered a presentation titled “Materials Innovation for Future Electronics” for Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU). All participants were inspired by the speaker and conducted vigorous discussions during the Q&A session.

Professor Tai-Wei Kuo, HKIAS Visiting Fellow, has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) for the 2018 class. The honour is the highest professional distinction accorded to academic inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society.

Koch, an eminent scientist in materials science and engineering, delivered a distinguished lecture titled “Stabilization of Nanocrystalline Grain Size at Elevated Temperatures: Theory and Experiment” for the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 17 May 2019.

Professor George Fu Gao, HKIAS Senior Fellow, was elected a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) on 30 April 2019. The honour recognizes the significant contribution of Professor Gao in the field of clinical-related preventive medical sciences and public health. The National Academy of Sciences elected 100 new members and 25 foreign associates in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research this year.

Professor George Fu Gao, HKIAS Senior Fellow and the Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China, was recently elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society for his contributions in the field of infection and immunity, particularly relating to emerging viral infections, have helped to improve our understanding of major threats to human health. In addition, Professor Gao was conferred an honorary doctorate by the City University of Macau on 28 May 2022.
