9 July 2021

“Locally Convex Spaces and Harmonic Analysis: An Introduction” by Professor Philippe G. Ciarlet, Senior Fellow of Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), was published by Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) in July 2021.

This self-contained textbook covers the fundamentals of two basic topics of linear functional analysis: locally convex spaces and harmonic analysis. Readers will find detailed introductions to topological vector spaces, distribution theory, weak topologies, the Fourier transform, the Hilbert transform, and Calderón–Zygmund singular integrals.

Professor Ciarlet is a University Distinguished Professor at CityU. He is a member of nine academies, including the French Academy of Sciences, the Academia Europaea, the World Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences. A Fellow of SIAM and American Mathematical Society, Professor Ciarlet has received numerous awards, including a Grand Prize from the French Academy of Sciences and a Humboldt Research Award. He is Doctor Honoris Causa, or Honorary Professor at 11 universities and the author of 16 books and more than 220 research papers.

SIAM, headquartered in the USA, is a leading international organization of researchers, educators, practitioners, and students whose primary interest is in mathematics and computational science and their applications. SIAM’s mission is to advance and raise awareness about applied mathematics and related fields through its publications, conferences, online resources, programs, and initiatives.
