2023 HKIAS Senior Fellows Annual Meeting

The 2023 HKIAS Senior Fellows Annual Meeting held at the end of March marked a significant accomplishment for the Institute as it was the first one held after the pandemic. Senior Fellows from across the globe attended the meeting both in person and online. The meeting provided an opportunity for Senior Fellows to come together and share their thoughts and ideas on the direction of HKIAS.

As Chairman of HKIAS, Professor Serge Haroche's opening remarks highlighted the challenges that scientists face in today's world, including a pandemic, escalating geopolitical unrest, and environmental crises. He cited Abraham Flexner, who founded the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study and encouraged scientists to maintain hope despite adversity, for the greater good of society.

Professor Xun-Li Wang, Executive Director, HKIAS gave a presentation of HKIAS illustrating the historical review, mission and the development plan. He noted that throughout the three-year pandemic, HKIAS continued to host workshops, forums, distinguished lectures, and has started new lecture series such as HK Tech Forums, Rising Stars Lectures, and others to engage faculty, students, and professionals.

HKIAS has always been committed to fostering an environment where ideas are exchanged and knowledge is advanced. To serve as a hub of minds, HKIAS will continue to host a variety of lectures and workshops for intellectual growth and inspiring innovation, said Professor Wang.
