Professor Carl C. Koch, an eminent scientist in materials science and engineering, delivered a distinguished lecture titled “Stabilization of Nanocrystalline Grain Size at Elevated Temperatures: Theory and Experiment” for the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 17 May 2019.
Professor Philippe G. Ciarlet, HKIAS Senior Fellow and University Distinguished Professor of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), was conferred Honorary Professor by South China University of Technology and Chongqing University, China, in recognition of his significant contributions to higher education.

A research team comprising experts from City University of Hong Kong, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and Zhejiang University discovered for the first time the deformation transitions of multiscale nanotwins (NTs) in austenitic stainless steel, which will help develop materials with higher strength and ductility. HKIAS Senior Fellow Professor Jian Lu and his team has discovered the marginal scale of nanotwin deformation transition mechanisms of austenitic stainless steel combining in situ tensile tests with theoretical modeling and atomistic simulations.
由香港城市大学、上海理工大学、浙江大学的专家组成的研究团队探索纳米孪晶的变形行为,首次揭示奥氏体不锈钢中多尺度纳米孪晶的变形转变,有助研发更高强度和延展性的材料。香港高等研究院资深院士吕坚教授及其团队,透过原位拉伸试验,配合理论模型及分子动力学模拟,发现奥氏体不锈钢的纳米孪晶变形转变机制的临界尺度。
