He is a world leader in the field of intermetallic and metallic materials.
Professor Tatsien Li (Daqian Li) (Former Senior Fellow)
Professor Li Tatsien (Li Daqian) is one of the best specialists, worldwide, of the theory and numerical analysis of nonlinear hyperbolic partial differential equations, a domain where major difficulties abound, as well as a domain of fundamental importance in applications. These include in particular nonlinear elasticity and gas dynamics.
David Yao received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto (1983), was Assistant Professor at Columbia University (1983-86), Associate Professor at Harvard University (1986-88), and since 1988 has been a full Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at Columbia University, where he has held the Thomas Alva Edison Chair (1992-98), and since 2012 the inaugural Piyasombatkul Family Chair.
Dr. Yan’s primary research interest has been in the structural and mechanistic investigation of membrane transport proteins that are of tremendous physiological, pathophysiological, and pharmaceutical significance. She reported the first structures of the human glucose transporters GLUT1 and GLUG3, the eukaryotic voltage-gated sodium and calcium channels, and a number of proteins involved in sterol metabolism. Her present research program focuses on structure-guided mechanistic understanding and drug discovery for pain relief. Her achievements have won her numerous accolades.
Prof. Qi-Kun Xue received his BSc in Shan-Dong University in 1984, and PhD degree in condensed matter physics from Institute of Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1994. From 1994 to 1999, he worked at Tohoku University, Japan and Department of Physics, North Carolina State University, USA. He became a professor at Institute of Physics, CAS in 1999. He was elected into The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAE) in 2005. Since 2005, he has been a professor in Department of Physics, Tsinghua University.
Professor Ching Ping Wong, is currently a Regents’ Professor and the Charles Smithgall Institute- Endowed Chair in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT). He was Emeritus Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong where he was the Dean of Faculty of Engineering (2010-2018).
Professor Enge Wang is one of the most prominent physicists in China. He is currently the University Chair Professor of Physics at Peking University. He was the Director of Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) (1999-2007), President of Peking University (2013-2015) and Vice President of CAS (2015-2017).
He graduated in theoretical physics from Liaoning University (1982) and obtained his PhD in condensed matter physics from Peking University (1990).
Earlier in his career, Professor Smale was involved in controversy over remarks he made regarding his work habits while proving the higher-dimensional Poincaré conjecture. He said that his best work had been done "on the beaches of Rio". This led to the withholding of his grant money from the NSF. He has been politically active in various movements in the past, such as the Free Speech movement. At one time he was subpoenaed by the House Un-American Activities Committee.
Professor Jean Salençon is Honorary Professor at the École polytechnique and the École nationale des ponts et chaussées (France). He was Chair professor-at-Largee and Visiting Distinguished professor at the City University of Hong Kong (2011-2016).
