On 19 June 2019, Professor T.G. Nieh, a world leader in superplasticity and superplastic forming, Visiting Fellow at Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS), delivered a presentation titled “Some Pondering Questions in Studying High Entropy Alloys” at City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have become the fastest growing research direction in metallurgy in the last decade. In this presentation, Professor Nieh talked about the latest development of high entropy alloys and discussed the possible challenges in studying HEAs. This presentation attracted many professors, graduate students and post-doctoral researchers at CityU who have interest in this dynamic field to join. All participants were glad to have such a chance to make inspiring discussions with the renowned materials scientist.

Professor Nieh is widely recognized for his work in several materials science disciplines, including complex alloys (for example, high entropy alloys and metallic glasses), nanocrystalline materials, lightweight alloys, metal-matrix composites, intermetallics, refractory metals and nanolaminates. He is a Fellow of The Materials, Minerals, and Metallurgical Society and American Society of Materials.
