Professor Tobin J. Marks, IAS Senior Fellow, has been elected to the Italian Academy of Sciences, the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Founded in 1603, its illustrious members include Galileo Galilei, Louis Pasteur, Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Werner Heisenberg, and others, and, more recently, American chemists, NU alumnus Harry Gray of Caltech as well as Dick Zare of Stanford.

Distinguished scientists and scholars discussed future trends and the latest development in nanomaterials at the 14th International Conference on Nanostructured Materials (NANO 2018) from 24 to 29 June at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) Materials Summit ran concurrently with the conference.

Since its founding in 2015, the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), based at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), has offered academics and students an innovative, intellectual platform to encourage and foster groundbreaking science research.
Professor Park Nam-gyu from the School of Chemical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea delivered the latest installment of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) Distinguished Lecture Series at City University Hong Kong on 11 June. At the lecture, titled “Lead Halide Perovskite: Photovoltaics and Beyond”, Professor Park said a universal method and interfacial nano-engineering had been developed to eliminate hysteresis, which is the lag in response exhibited in a body when reacting to forces affecting it.
